Suffering 苦難

Why is there suffering in the world?
世界にはどうして苦難がありますか？

The reason that there is sickness, death, and suffering in the world is because we live in a Fallen Creation.
世界に病気や、死や、苦難がある、理由は堕落した創造の地に住んでいるからです。

The Bible says that in the beginning God made everything perfect – no sin, no sickness, no tsunamis, no earthquakes, no death, no carnivores killing animals etc.
聖書によると最初に神様は全ての物を完璧に創造しました。罪、病気、津波、地震、死、動物を殺す肉食はなかった。

All animals and people were vegetarian.

Bible Mistakes? 聖書の間違い？

Many people think that the Bible is full of mistakes.
多くの人は聖書はたくさん間違いがあると思っています。

However, I have been reading and studying the Bible for most of my life and have yet to find one real contradiction or mistake in it.
しかし、私は自分の人生の大部分を、聖書を読んでと学んでいるが、まだ一つの矛盾も間違いが見つけていません。

This is one reason why I know that the Bible is greater than any other book and that it is the truth from God.

Dragon Well 竜の泉

I found this interesting Bible verse about "the dragon well" in Jerusalem.
エルサレムにあるという「竜の泉」に関する興味深い聖書の一節を見つけました。


"And I went out by night by the gate of the valley, even before the dragon well, and to the dung port, and viewed the walls of Jerusalem, which were broken down, and the gates thereof were consumed with fire." Nehemiah 2:13

The Hebrew word for dragon here is "tannin". Many modern Bible's translate tannin as "jackal" instead of Dragon.

I believe that the reason for this is because modern translators think that dragons were not real animals.

However, there are many connections between dragons and dinosaurs.

Behemoth - Dinosaur in the Bible ベヒモス：聖書の恐竜

Behemoth (Hebrew בהמות, behemoth) is a very large beast that must be a dinosaur. (Probably a Sauropod).
ベヒモス（ヘブル語）はとても大きな動物で恐竜です。（竜脚下目でしょう。）
Unfortunately the translators of the 2 most popular Japanese Bibles have translated the Hebrew word Behemoth as hippopotamus (kaba 河馬).
残念ながら、最も普及している日本の聖書の翻訳者はヘブル語の単語ベヒモスを「河馬」と訳しました。

However it is impossible for it to be a hippo if you read the description.
しかし、もし叙事文を読みたら、河馬にするのは無理です。

According to the description Behemoth is a huge animal - most likely the largest animal God made.

It has a tail like a cedar tree. (This would have been a Lebanese cedar and not a Japanese cedar, although both kinds of cedars are massive trees.) Hippos have tiny tails, but Sauropod dinosaurs have huge tails.

The reason that the translators used the word hippo for behemoth is because they have been influenced by the false idea that dinosaurs lived millions of years before people.

So they think that it would be impossible for people in the time of Job (about 2000BC) to see living dinosaurs.

Morality モラル

The number of Japanese (and western) people without morals has been increasing.
日本人（と西洋人）でモラルがない人の数が増えています。

However, what is the basis for morality in Japanese society?
しかし、日本社会のモラルの基本は何ですか？

If the basis for morality in Japan is tradition, then why can’t the traditions change?
もし、モラルの基本は伝統なら、伝統は変更出来ないでしょうか？

How do you decide what is right and wrong?
どうやって、正義と悪を決めますか？

Majority opinion cannot determine morality, because the majority can be wrong.
マジョリティは時々間違えることがあるので、多数派意見はモラルを決められない。

In western nations too moral decay is an increasing problem, because these days most people no longer believe that the Bible is God’s Word.
西洋の国でも風紀退廃の問題が増えています。今日、殆どの人は聖書が神様の言葉だと信じていません。

If we are just evolved animals and there is no God then why is killing wrong?
もし神様が存在せず、我々がただ進化しただけの動物であるのなら、なぜ殺すことが悪だと言えようか？

Why was Hitler wrong to kill millions of Jews?
どうして何百万のユダヤ人を殺したヒトラーは悪なのか？

Why is abortion wrong?
なぜ堕胎が悪なのか？

After all, a lion is not wrong to kill a gazelle. We don’t send a lion to jail for killing another animal.
詮ずる所、ライオンがガゼルを殺すことは悪ではない。私たちはライオンが他の動物を殺したとしても、刑務所へ送ることはありません。

Judges 21:25 (NLT) "In those days Israel had no king, so the people did whatever seemed right in their own eyes."

Nowadays, the nations have rejected God's kingship, so people are doing whatever seems right in their own eyes.

The Bible is like an anchor for society that keeps society from drifting into danger.
聖書は社会の碇のように、社会が危険な方に流れていってしまわないように守っています。

¹⁶ While Paul was waiting for them in Athens, he was deeply troubled by all the idols he saw everywhere in the city. ¹⁷ He went to the synagogue to reason with the Jews and the God-fearing Gentiles, and he spoke daily in the public square to all who happened to be there.

16アテネで二人を待つ間、パウロは市内を見物することにしました。　ところがどうでしょう。　町は偶像でいっぱいです。　パウロの胸には、むらむらと怒りが込み上げてきました。　 17黙ってはいられません。　会堂へ行き、ユダヤ人や敬虔な外国人たちと議論する一方、毎日広場で、そこに居合わせた人たちと論じ合いました。

¹⁸ He also had a debate with some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers. When he told them about Jesus and his resurrection, they said, “What’s this babbler trying to say with these strange ideas he’s picked up?” Others said, “He seems to be preaching about some foreign gods.”

アテネでの混乱
18パウロはまた、エピクロス派やストア派の哲学者たちとも議論を戦わせました。　ところが、イエスのことやその復活のことに話がおよぶと、「こいつは夢を見てるんだ」とあざ笑う者と、「おおかた外国の宗教でも押しつけるつもりだろう」と言う者に分かれました。
¹⁹ Then they took him to the high council of the city.^[a] “Come and tell us about this new teaching,” they said. ²⁰ “You are saying some rather strange things, and we want to know what it’s all about.” ²¹ (It should be explained that all the Athenians as well as the foreigners in Athens seemed to spend all their time discussing the latest ideas.)

³² When they heard Paul speak about the resurrection of the dead, some laughed in contempt, but others said, “We want to hear more about this later.”

This is one of my favourite Bible verses and a verse that I’ve heard is also very popular with Japanese Christians.

Matthew 11:28-30 (The NLT Bible)

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”
